JSC has produced a great many line-drawings in pencil and pen-and-ink for various purposes, including illustrations for books (e.g. his own Oxford Dictionary of Architecture and Landscape Architecture [2006]) and papers. Some are records of buildings he has seen, sketches made on travels, etc., some are satirical attacks on what he perceives as visual barbarism, some are studies of historical subjects, and others are original designs. Many are simple black-and-white line-drawings, but on occasion he introduces sparing use of water-colour, ink, or gouache to heighten effects. A selection is reproduced here.
